Naloxone (Narcan) is a medication that reverses an opioid overdose. It is not a treatment, it is a life saving medication. If given to someone not experiencing an opioid overdose it will not hurt the individual. Naloxone ONLY works on opiods.
Naloxone comes in different forms: nasal or intramuscular (IM) both work on opioid overdose.
Naloxone (Narcan) does not require a prescription from a medical doctor, it can be purchased over the counter.
